Lawrence of Arabia carving

At the southwest tip of Jordan is the russet-red desert of Wadi Rum, made famous in the West by Lawrence of Arabia. His portrait was carved into a rock by the Bedouins he led in their struggle for freedom from the Turks.

The four of us in an all-terrain vehicle - with a knowledgeable driver! We would never have found our way out of this vast sandy wasteland dotted with wind-carved sandstone rocks.
